Amazing house in Welwyn Garden City

We have just been instructed on this superb four bedroom terraced house in Welwyn Garden City. It has been extended into the loft to add the fourth bedroom and has a potential for a rear extension too. It is walking distance to the Howard Centre, John Lewis and Welwyn Garden City railway station and on the favoured West Side of Welwyn close to  Applecroft Primary School, Stanborough School and Oaklands College. There are good sporting and other facilities close by with Gosling Park Sports Centre, Welwyn Rugby Football Club and Stanborough Lakes Park all a short walk from the property and Welwyn and Brockett Hall golf clubs a short drive away. We have an Open Day at 11am to 12 noon on Saturday the 25th of April so please call to book an appointment. The full address is 35 Springfields, Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, AL8 6XT. See…

Proud to Sponsor Welwyn Rugby Football Club

We have now sponsored Welwyn Rugby Football club for the last two years and that is on the back of having played for Welwyn RFC since 1986, one year after leaving university. I just came across this excellent article on the club web site and I think it sums up why Welwyn is so special. Enjoy!

Welwyn RFC was originally born as Welwyn (East), and formed in 1931.

The first rugby club in Welwyn Garden City (WGC) was Mid Herts., formed in the mid 1920’s and comprised mainly of players from the more affluent West side of town. They had a pitch at Handside Lane but no clubhouse, only a small changing hut with a crude bath.

During the depression years in the 30’s, numbers of Welsh from the valleys and Scots from the border woolen mills arrived in town to work in…

Another Record Year – Another Record Donation to The Isabel Hospice

IMG_5965 cropped Isabel Hospice 2015 Cheque

At BigBlackHen.com we have been enthusiastic supporters of Welwyn Garden City’s favourite charity – The Isabel Hospice – since we opened our virtual doors in Hertfordshire over four years ago. We believe that as a local business it important to put something back into the community, which is why we get involved in fundraising, and also why we donate £25 for every house that we sell. It doesn’t sound like much but it soon adds up – here is me presenting a cheque for £1,150 for the 46 houses we sold in 2014, up from the £1,050 we donated in 2013. Add in the over £4,000 raised by trekking in Peru and we added over £5,000 to the Isabel Hospice coffers last year. And that money will be put to great use helping those with…

Schools in Welwyn Garden City are a big reason why people buy houses here

Although we sell property all over Hertfordshire, with our head office in Welwyn Garden City we know all to well what attracts buyers to the town – and the schools are a big part of its appeal.

We are seeing large numbers of buyers moving from North London up the railway lines to Hertfordshire and one of the big reasons why they choose Welwyn Garden City above other local towns is the very fast train service to London Kings Cross in 22 minutes and the excellent schools.

So whether you have decided to move into Welwyn Garden City for the first time from the big smoke or your reasons are to move to a different area within the city, here is some helpful information and links to our pick of the best local schools:
